15 years ago today I went to my first general admission, standing-only show. It was EMF at Roseland, with Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine and Cop Shoot Cop opening. MTV News had recently done a long report on the crowd-surfing phenomenon, and my mother was horrified. But I went.

Bahahahahaahaha. I was at that show, only because I was a HUGE fan of Cop Shoot Cop (second only to Killing Joke). Interviewed the band the next day at the CB's Pizza Bar (remember that?) Became friends with Tod [A] of C$C then who remains one of my best friends today (now fronting the on-again, off-again Firewater). I wrote an article on that show for NYPerspectives (a sort've cheap-o version of NYPress). I should dig that up.
I also interviewed EMF at one point much later, and that went exceptionally poorly, but that's an anecdote for another day.

Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine!! Ahaha! I had completely forgotten about him. A few years later, in college, I made friends with the theatre (NOT theater) crowd and one of them was a guy who saw, particularly for a theatre guy, tons and tons of... um, action. His name, of course, was Carter.
Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine was actually two guys named JimBob and Fruitbat (I shit ye not). No one named Carter was actually in the band.
I think the "him" Emma is referring to is her theatre (ahem!) friend Carter, who was an unstoppable sex machine. Try to keep up. And I was totally going to marry JimBob, so you don't have to tell me.
Yes, the Alanis-style irony was that my Carter was not in any way affiliated with either JimBob or Fruitbat.
